History:

Ingrid’s world is one very similar to the real one. All the same events and politics apply, but there was one major different. Meta-humans. Since before anyone can remember there have been people born who developed powers upon hitting puberty. The majority of these meta-humans had powers that were not quite so intimidating or useful, such as being able to change the color of things by touching it or being able to turn cry soap. However some had very powerful abilities that caused a lot of nervousness amongst normal people. But as time proved this small group to not be something to fear, the metas were able to mostly live peacefully. Several towns and cities in the US opened themselves to the group, and while prejudice existed in the world, metas could have a rather normal life within their protected areas. Metas in the rest of the world met with varied lifestyles. Popular rumor had it that some countries are training metas as soldiers and spies; others said that they were being used in experiments. In any case, the small community in rural Virginia that Ingrid’s story is mostly set, was a place welcoming to her kind. There, one of the countries many meta only boarding schools had been built, serving as a home for the gifted youth.

-----

Ingrid was an only child born to a stay at home mother and a father whom was off fighting in the last of WW II. Her father was injured during the war and lost his ability to walk. However, unhappiness was never a part of Ingrid’s life. Though he was immobilized, her father taught Ingrid many life lessons and was her number one supporter throughout life. So when at age 12, Ingrid began to exhibit powers over sand, her father took it as a means of pride instead of disgust. She was taken to the nearest meta institution. Walker’s, shortly afterwards.

Ingrid liked her time as a Walker’s student. She excelled in classes and learned, though slowly, how to control her powers. She was honestly sad to see her date of graduation approaching, believing that this was meant to be her home. After debating for a while, Ingrid made the decision to come back and teach there someday.

Ingrid’s had always loved children, so it came as no surprise that she wanted to teach. She’d held an affinity for the sciences ever since she was discovered as a meta, so Ingrid graduated with a Biology degree from a local state college. During her time at college she stayed hushed about her powers, only telling the people close to her. She met and became engaged to a promising young business student name Henry. However the union was not much of a good match. After two years of engagement Ingrid broke away from Henry after meeting a local man training to be in law enforcement. While Henry was agreeable and respectful, Richard was a hardened man of ill manners. Several arguments and too many drinks often led the two to together. Despite their conflicts they married shortly after Ingrid graduated and they moved back to the small town near Walker’s.

She went into teaching at Walker’s less than a year after marriage and was relieved to find the joy she had there as a student still remained. It was a few years later that she was pregnant with her first child, Samuel. Ingrid left the institute for a few years to tend to her son and then again for the daughter, Renee, that came along quickly afterwards. Ingrid went back to teaching for many years before her third child was born. Denny came as a surprise to Ingrid and Richard, but he was loved none the less. His older siblings had never shown signs of mutations, but around Denny’s 11th birthday he began to use Atmidokinesis (ability to control vapor). Since she had a position at Walker’s, Denny was immediately sent to the school.

Having her son was in school wasn’t easy for Ingrid. Denny was something of a hellcat in his early years, and as his mother, Ingrid was the one left to deal with him. He tended to act out to try to fit in with other students and no matter Ingrid’s disapproval; Denny didn’t straighten out until after he left. She would never admit it, but she was relieved when he graduated.

Her oldest children married young and went on in successful lives. Samuel went into law enforcement much like his father and married a quiet Irish girl he met during a holiday. Renee became a pastry chef, whom married a store manager. Between the two, Ingrid was gifted with three loving grandchildren.

Denny, however, ran off about a year after graduating. Ingrid heard little from him, only a few letters, until about two years ago. He called and apologized for his long absence, and what proceeded was one of the hardest conversations in her life. Her son had run off with a school mate, Alex Hanson, and the two were engaged. Richard did not take the news well, and Ingrid had to do a lot of damage control to keep the family intact. She made both boys come over for the holidays, and locked her husband and child in a room until they worked things out. It took a lot of time for everyone to settle into the news, but Ingrid being the stubborn woman that she is, has made it work so far.

As for her opinion on the matter, Ingrid has always had the inclination that Alex and Denny weren’t just close friends and she was quick to welcome her son’s fiancé into her family. There was nothing a child of Ingrid’s could do to lose her love. She’s still a little upset that her son felt he needed to keep it from her for so long. Ingrid is still trying to get them to set a proper date, and continues to pester them about letting her plan the wedding.

A few years ago, her oldest grandchild, Victoria was found to posses the meta gene. She has been living with her grandparents while attending Walker’s, as her father could not get another position closer to the school. Ingrid has ‘Vicky’ in several of her classes and spends much of her free time trying to bond with her granddaughter.

Ingrid is, at the time of her being sucked into Prospero, still continuing her work at Walker’s, watching her students grow and stubbornly refusing to leave. Ingrid’s expecting the birth of Renee’s third child soon, and will be coming straight from holding the dreaded frog dissection lesson.

Personality:

Ingrid is a woman set in her ways and much too stubborn to change any off them. Once she’s got her mind on something, it would take an act of congress to make her let it go. Ingrid’s work as a teacher at a school for the ‘gifted’ has left her hard to surprise. She’s heard everything at least once and hardly acts embarrassed by even the sauciest of topics.

Ingrid is blunt and straight forward in her manner of speech. She feels she has earned the right to honesty after being around so long. Of course, her version of honesty often toes the line of being outright rude. Her comments are often mistaken for distaste against others, but if she really disliked you, you would know it. Ingrid doesn’t beat around the bush when she hates someone and never tried to hide it.

As said, Ingrid is honest to the extreme of it being harsh. She’s not the type to sugar coat anything, though she may try to soften her blows with added words of kindness if she likes someone enough. This really means she may tell you that your sense of style is the most hideous and down right disgusting things she’s ever laid eyes on and then ask you in for a cup of tea. She’s also quiet strict as a teacher and is known for giving hard and very work intensive lessons. Around test time, it’s not uncommon to hear her name being cursed throughout her old school’s halls.

Ingrid is easily riled up; disrespect of any kind is more than enough to set her off. She can and will throw temper tantrums when she is faced with frustrating situations. Ingrid is forceful, often ignoring others thoughts or feelings for her own gain. She has often tried to set up coworkers, usually to disastrous results.

However, Ingrid isn’t all bad. Despite her harsh ways, Ingrid does genuinely love her students and co-workers. If she sees someone at her school in need, she’ll do anything to help them in her own usually troublesome way. Ingrid has a bleeding heart when it comes to children, having spent so long with them and having raised so many makes her feel the need to be a mother figure to them all. She strives to be fair and to keep her temper, even when someone has set her desk on fire three times in the last semester. She even has a sense of humor, though it tends to be dry, a little black, and at the expense of others.

Game Specific:

Arcana: Sun

Justification:

Joy: Ingrid finds a lot of happiness in her life. Despite her stubbornness and disagreeable notions, she finds reasons to laugh. She takes joy in living out her standard and having her sense of power and motherhood over her students.

Vitality: She's energetic and boisterous in all her actions.  She's willful, vibrant, and filled with life.

Arrogance: She feels extremely entitled to not only her opinion but to her way of life as the standard others should live by. She over estimates people's acceptance of her, and flaunts her standing. She thinks of herself as invincible and on top of the world, and isn't afraid of sharing that view with others.

Vanity: Alongside her arrogance, Ingrid is also rather vain for both her appearance and abilities. She's easily led by  flattery and just as easily angered when given negative feedback on herself.

Hyperactivity: Her energetic ways sometimes slip into being flighty and rushed. Her passion for things is reminiscent of a child's excitement for toys or games.

Samples:

First Person Sample:

[Ingrid gestures snappishly at the screen obviously irate.]

What is wrong with you children? Skipping school just because of that skirmish last night? You’d think you lot would be more used to it by now.

[She raps her knuckles against a nearby desk.]

I won’t stand for it. Just because your parents aren’t here doesn’t mean you get to act like truants. I expect to see you all at school tomorrow bright and early. And how about you bring a nice little three page report on why education is important? Anyone who has my class and refuses this can expect to send a little quality time with me in detention.

Third Person Sample:

“Yes, yes.” A loud laugh, and the distinct rise of Jazz in the background. “Well, tell the kids I love them. Goodbye, Renee.” A sharp click, as she hung up the phone. A rustle of papers, as she went back to her work. Ingrid leaned over her desk, marking tests with her favorite red pen.

The song switched and Elvis played softly in the background, as she finished grading. She then turned to entering the grades in her grade book. Most teachers now days used computers, but Ingrid was old fashioned. She’d have to make someone help her input them later. Besides she didn’t trust computers, or just about any technology for that matter. She still kept a tape player in her office instead of buying an ipod.

Once she finished, Ingrid began to tidy her desk. One of her students was dropping by to discuss a paper, and she wanted everything to look welcoming. She turned off her music, and dug out a bag of hard candy from a drawer. She set it out in one of the crystal bowels Alex had sent for her birthday. Ingrid smoothed out her navy skirt and returned to her seat. She heard the soft knock at her door. “Come in.” After a moment of hesitation, in popped the head of one the juniors. “Sit please.” Ingrid smiled and leaned back, gesturing to the cushy chair in front of her. “Why don’t we get started?”
